Although Information Lifecycle Management has been a marketing word for a long time, it becomes more and more a real-life approach to assist customers in optimizing the TCO of their storage environment.
By pre-defining classes of data; based on application requirements, one can come to a solution where data gets stored on media of which the cost represents the importance of the data at that time. In this approach it is quite possible that data changes media-type as it grows older.
Since ILM solutions typically stretch multiple technologies and products (both software and hardware), multi-vendor expertise and experience as available from T&SE, are a must to design a customized added-value ILM concept, and this across multiple industries.
